What is Astroturfing, Astroturf Propaganda and How to Recognize It

Posted by on

Astroturf  propaganda is fake "grass-roots" campaigns that are funded by special interest group to frequently promote a corporate agenda.  They have fake blogs, fake web sites, and fake experts that talk to each other and have fake conversations with themselves through their fake blogs and websites in order to favorably manipulate public opinion and discredit legitimate science and experts who threaten their corporate agenda.

In the autism world some of the top astroturf sites that attack people who question vaccine safety and look into causes of autism that are not beneficial to corporate agendas include:

American Council on Science and Health -(once called “Voodoo Science, Twisted Consumerism” by the watchdog Center for Science in the Public Interest)

Every Child by Two

Large pharmacecutical companies fund the people who are behind these blogs and websites including Dr. Paul Offit, who has said you can safely administer 10,000 vaccine to infants at once, and who is making untold millions from a parent on a dangerous rotovirus vaccine that is now on our vaccine schedule, is unnecessary in the U.S. (it is for dysentary) and has harmed and killed children here and around the world.

Conversely, studies that are actually funded by consulting firms, like the Lewin Group, for large pharmaceuticals and published in major journals including a study denying the vaccine/autism connection published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2015.  The Lewin Group’s parent company, UnitedHealth Group, is a key government partner in Obamacare. Its subsidiary QSSI was given the contract to build the federal government’s website. One of its top executives and his family are top Obama donors.
