New !  ZyCarb and Trienza Chewables

Autism Coach is pleased to offer two powerful enzymes specially created to help children with difficulty metabolizing gluten and casein: Peptizyde and HN-Zyme Prime. Experts in autism, such as Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a gastroenterologist specializing in the study of autism and the intestinal tract, believe that children in the autism spectrum are harmed through the mal-digestion of food, contributing to a chain of metabolic dysfunction that ultimately interferes with proper neurological development. Some of these experts, such as Dr. Wakefield and his colleague, Paul Shattock, have taken the approach that  establishing proper digestion can greatly improve the prognosis of children in the autism spectrum.

Some children within the autism spectrum are also sensitive to foods with high levels of phenols, such as tomatoes, apples, and grapes, which can manifest as behavioral and physical symptoms.  The No-Fenol enzyme is specifically designed to help children with phenol sensitivities.

Proven Effectiveness

In a survey of 260 parents over a 7 month period, 90% of parents using Peptizyde and HN-Zyme Prime together reported sustained improvements in behavior and level of ability. For more information on the results of this survey, see Enzyme Survey

When my son began taking these enzymes, within a week we observed significant improvements - red ears and pimply cheek rash that had been present since infancy faded considerably. Within two weeks, he improved in math, reading, drawing, physical coordination, and sense of humor.

Which enzymes to choose?

There are now several versions of these enzymes available - all are highly effective:

Original version - We recommend the original version of the enzymes unless your child is on the SCD diet or is allergic to fruit.  This version is appropriate for the Gluten and Casein free diet, which eliminates gluten and casein proteins commonly found in grains and dairy products.  This diet has proved to benefit the majority of children within the autism spectrum.  For more information on the GFCF diet, please click here.

SCD version - If your child is on the SCD Diet, we recommend SCD version. The main difference is that the SCD versions of the enzymes do not contain rice bran filler, which is not permitted in this diet.  For more information on the Specific Carbohydrate diet, which eliminates many sugars and carbohydrates, please click here.

Can't swallow a capsule - if your child does not swallow capsules, we offer more economical powdered forms of the SCD Peptizyde, AFP Peptizyde and SCD Zyme Prime enzymes that allow you to mix the enzymes into the child's drink or food or you can use the new fruit-flavored chewable tablet forms of AFP Peptizyde and SCD Zyme Prime.  The chewable AFP Peptizyde and Zyme Prime tablets are also SCD compatible.  These chewable tablets contain more additives than we normally offer in a supplement, but we have received numerous requests to carry the chewables both because of their convenience, and for some children, it is the only form of the enzymes they will accept.   If you prefer to use the Original Zyme Prime and Peptizyde, these gel caps can be opened and the powder inside mixed easily into food as well.

Fruit sensitive - If your child is allergic to pineapple or papaya in Peptizyde and Zyme Prime, we recommend that you use the AFP Peptizyde and the SCD Zyme Prime.  The chewable AFP Peptizyde and Zyme Prime tablets are also SCD compatible.  If your child is allergic to tangerine or berries in the chewable forms of Peptizyde and Zyme Prime, we recommend that you use the AFP Peptizyde and the SCD Zyme Prime.

Trienza combines AFP Peptizyde, SCD Zyme Prime and No-Fenol in a single supplement.  Tqo capsules or 4 chewable tablets of Trienza contain all the protease enzymes from one AFP Peptizyde capsules, all the enzymes (except cellulase) from one Zyme Prime capsule, and 1/2 the enzymes from one No-Fenol capsule.  The chewable tablet version has a pineapple/tutti frutti natural flavor.

ZyCarb - Is similar to Zyme Prime in smaller capsule and 1/3 more capsules per bottle (120) than Zyme Prime.  It  helps with digestion of  starches, carbohydrates, and fats. Zylanase helps in tolerance to pheonls.  Cellulase is removed.  Cellulase is recommended for Candida overgrowth - however cellulase also digests the cellulose in time-release medications which can interfere with timing of the release of these medications.   It is s less stool firming and so is less apt to result in constipation and it helps to reduce the gas and bloating from starchy meals.

No-Fenol - Allows some children to eat fruits and vegetables (such as tomatoes, apples, and grapes) that are high in phenolic compounds.  This enzyme is to be taken when children eat foods with high levels of phenols to improve their ability to tolerate these foods and minimize a behavioral reaction or physical reaction (such as red ears cheeks, and dark circles under the eyes) to these foods.  For more information, click here.  This enzyme can be taken in addition to the Peptizyde and Zyme Prime enzymes.  It comes in a capsule and powder form.

For more general information and guidelines for using these enzymes, see Enzyme FAQs.

Peptizyde

Peptizyde is a powerful state-of-the-art enzyme blend designed to completely digest gluten and casein proteins commonly found in wheat and dairy products. Dr. Wakefield believes that many autistic children incompletely digest these proteins, creating opiate-like molecules from wheat and dairy products during digestion. These opiates then leak through the intestines into the blood, finding their way to brain and flooding the brain with opiates which interfere with proper neurological development. Peptizyde is designed to break down gluten and casein molecules preventing the formation of these harmful opiates. Peptizyde is so powerful that a capsule of it mixed in a tablespoon of yogurt will liquify the yogurt in seconds.

Zyme Prime

Zyme Prime is an blend of 10 different enzymes that address the digestion of other food components, including proteins, complex carbohydrates, and triglycerides. It appears to provide some benefit for children with sensitivities to phenols, which are problematic for a significant number of autistic children. Zyme Prime designed to be used with Peptizyde, providing complete digestion for the food components that Peptizyde does not digest.  Used together, all forms of Peptizyde and Zyme Prime provide full-spectrum digestion.

ZyCarb

AFP Peptizyde

AFP Peptizyde™ was developed in response to parents request for a high DPP IV-containing enzyme product that did not include fruit-based enzymes such as papain or bromelain which some children are sensitive to. Like Peptizyde™, it is a combination of three different proteolytic enzymes isolated from fungal plant sources.  It can be used instead of Peptizyde by children with sensitivities to papaya or pineapple.  If your child is sensitive to papaya or bromelain, then you would use Peptizyde exclusively and not use Zyme Prime as it also contains fruit enzymes.

No-Fenol

No-Fenol™ was developed in response to parents' requests for an enzyme to help children with sensitivities to foods with high levels of phenols, such as tomatoes, apples, or grapes.  Some children exhibit behavioral problems or physical symptoms such as red ears and cheeks, after eating foods with high levels of phenols. The new, chewable tutti-fruitti flavor makes No-Fenol even easier to take.  No-Fenol is also beneficial for metabolizing salicylates.

Recommended Dosages

Typically, 1 capsule/scoop of each of Peptizyde and Zyme Prime per major meal or major snack. For more detailed information, please see Enzyme FAQs.  For the chewable flavored forms of the enzymes, 3 chewable tablets is the equivalent to one capsule, and 2 chewable tablets is the equivalent to 1/2 a capsule. For No-Fenol, 1 capsule/scoop is to be used when the child consumes foods/drinks containing high levels of phenols - this dose may be adjusted higher or lower, according to the amount of phenols consumed and how the child reacts to No-Fenol.
