Yes

I believed that triggered my grandchild's autism. My grandson 5 seemed to be developing normally until immunizations. His sister 9 had an allergic reaction to the  MMR and was never given any more. His 12 year old brother broke out with false measles. I believe strongly in the links between immunizations causing autism.

Yes

Yes, immunizations were a factor for my son. At 12 mos. Hib #3, PCV7 #3, and Varicella 1.  Injection site swelled, hardened and pussed for 2 wks. with 105 fever. Unexplained bout of strep, then ear infections, then regression within 6 wks. after. He has not rcvd the MMR, nor any other immunizations since.  Age 25 mos. dx asd

Yes

I believe an immunization triggered my child’s autism.  He was a perfect child before the immunization.

Yes

Boy - 10 Years Old (will be 11 in November) Asperger's Syndrome.  It is also very interesting (?) that a number of kids born the same

year as him all having different problems:  ADD, ADHD, Tourettes, Asperger's, PDD-NOS, and Austim.  Something in the water? or

vaccinations?  I am inclined to go with the vaccinations.

Yes

I believe immunizations caused my child’s autism.

Yes

Yes, We are absolutely sure that our child's vaccinations were responsible in large part for his retardation and autism.  He was adopted at 5 weeks with drug exposure and lack of oxygen being the main concerns.  He was developing normally until his 6 mo DPT shots and then began to fall behind.  He never stopped screaming.  At each set of DPT shots, he lost more skills, speech, imitation, cognition, etc.  We did hair analysis at 18 mos-2 yr and his levels of aluminum were very high.   Today he is a severely handicapped 10 yr old boy, who is non-verbal, in diapers, with severe behaviors and OCD,  and on many meds to try and control his behaviors.  He has had intense intervention since he was a baby, yet he is still a "baby."  We did Chelation on he and another one of our (ADHD) adopted children 2 years ago with great results.  However, despite getting him off all his meds, we lost the progress when the school breaks hit and his OCD went into full swing.  We went right back to where we started.  I think that the neural pathways needed to be fixed.  Just taking the mercury out was not enough.  Maybe that is why it is so effective in younger children.  Those roadmaps are not so clearly marked.  But it was wonderful to have him off meds and so calm for the first time since he was a baby.  (Both children showed mercury in their bodies at 8 and 10 years old.)  No one could ever convince me that it wasn't the shots.  We know it was and we will have to live with the effect every minute of the rest of our lives.  We love him so much that the thought of giving him up to a group home of that type of setting is too painful to contemplate, but sometimes I don't know if I will survive it.  We adopted 4, 3 with special needs, and we homeschool  all except for our autistic child.   I can't wait for them to finally get the truth out about the vaccinations.  Just the validation for all those parents who though they were doing what was best for their children, and found that was not the case.

Yes

Yes, I do believe the MMR immunization triggered my son's autism. I have had him tested and he does not have the gene for autism.  He is five years old now and does not talk. He started out saying words at the age of 12 months, then after the MMR he slowly dropped off to nothing.

Yes

My son is 6-years old.  He was diagnosed as severely autistic at 2.5-years old.  Chart attached.  (Chart shows profile of various markers, most are within normal range, except for Mercury, which is off the chart.)

Yes

Yes (I believe an immunization triggered my child's autism).  My daughter is now 14 years old.  During her first year, she was a very happy baby.  After her first birthday (and after her 12 month immunization), she changed drastically - she was more emotional (very prone to crying all the time).  She appeared to develop normally until approximately 2 years (24 month booster).  She stopped talking and would just repeat what was said to her.  I took her to the pediatrician and said "Something's wrong."  Unfortunately, after many misdiagnoses, my daughter was finally diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome about 10 months ago.

Yes

Yes, I believe immunizations caused my son's autism!  Age 7, born May 28, 1997.

Yes

Yes.  Our son's neuropsych doctor's impression as to the cause of his unique condition was that it was a result of a toxic event.  Our son started having Myoclonic Seizures, at the age of 2y 10mos.  Myoclonic seizures are related to mercury toxicity.  The myoclonic seizures were the beginning of the downward spiral of a child who had been ahead developmentally before the seizures, who loved to laugh and sing.  It has been a long, hard struggle but he is no longer a zombie.  He is back to the very sociable and friendly person he once was, the kid "who never met a stranger".  He regressed back to infant stages, but he continues to make gains at a very slow pace.  He still has global developmental delays, severe learning disabilities and mild CP.    And while he is not "normal", we are fortunate that we got our loving son back.

Yes

Yes, I believe my child regressed in language use and socialization after 15 months.  You see him looking less alert, with a vague expression on his face in pictures after that time.  Earlier he was more engaging.  I believe without the immunization he would likely still have had an engineer type mind.  He was always quiet, never ever cried.... was a malpresentation at birth as I don't believe he perceived pain in utero.... So, he had some sensory issues before birth.  But the immunizations made it worse and for my son the kindergarten immunizations made it much worse.  He became really agitated in Kindergarten.

Yes

YES!  I fully believe that vaccinations (and mercury poisoning) played a role in my son's PDD-NOS.  I am a chemist/chemical engineer and have studied metal poisoning for the past 3 years.  My son has made great progress by dietary changes and chlorella chelation.  Please let me know if you would like any other info.

Yes

Yes (I believe an immunization triggered my child's autism). Number of children in the spectrum = 1.  Their ages = 4.5. Mother's family has a long history of allergies as does the Father. CB4 gene tested negative (normal). Contracted RSV at 6 weeks. Hepatitis shot at prior to 24 hours after birth seems a bit ridiculous...let's give our babies a chance.   'Piggy backing' (one on top of the other) vaccinations, in my humble opinion, seems to be a big cause.

Yes

Yes, I definitely believe that vaccines have triggered my son's ASD.

Yes

Yes, I believe an immunization triggered my son’s autism.

Yes

I am positive that the vaccination was the environmental factor that brought out my daughter's autism.  I am also sure that there is a cover up due to the catastrophic consequences this would bring to not only the pharmaceutical companies (the largest lobbying body in our nation), but to our entire economy.   However, if we continue on this route, we are dooming our children to unfulfilling lives and destroying ourselves in the process. It may sound dramatic, but I truly feel we are only hurting ourselves.

Yes

After many months of research and testing, I believe that there is an association between my child's autism and his  immunization shots.  He is the only one of my five children to have it and I believe it was a result of him having been given 8 immunization shots at one time.

Need I say more!

Yes

Yes

I believe an immunization triggered my child's autism. After second shot of immunization (DTP, IPV and HIB) which was 5 vaccines in one shot (first  shot he got separately) my child start develop autistic symptoms like ignoring his name , people, his older brother and beginning to be more interested in spinning parts of objects.. Before that immunization he was a normal child which can be seen on the video tape we made.

Yes

I believe an immunization triggered my child's autism.

Yes

I DO believe that an immunization triggered my child's autism.

Yes

I believe an immunization triggered by grandson's autism --- he was developing normally until he received the immunization.

Yes

Yes I believe autism was caused by vaccines.

Yes

I think definitely yes.  My son who is now 8 1/2 was developing beautifully before receiving the MMR vaccine.

Yes

Yes, I definitely believe that vaccines have triggered my son's ASD.

Yes

Autism triggered by immunization.

Yes

I have three children and the middle child, now 11, was diagnosed with PDD NOS when he was nearly 7.  He was born 9 weeks prem.  His elder brother is now 14, was only 6 weeks prem and developed normally although he has showed some glimmers of aspergers syndrome.  My youngest is a girl, now 9, only 5 weeks prem and exhibits no developmental delays.

My ASD child received all his vaccines on schedule, ( we were advised not to make any allowance for prematurity) between 1993 and 1998.  He weighed less than 3 kilos when he received his first DTP vaccine. The next 2 doses were at 2 month intervals.  He received the MMR in June ’94 and the DTP  number 4 followed in September ’94. During ’95 we started noting problems with  his development.  He received his next dose of DTP (Infanrix) with the MMR in August “98 just before starting school.

This week our NAET practitioner tested him against the current batch of vaccines used here. These do not contain thimerosol and the DTP is the newer, and supposedly safer acellular type. Muscle Response Testing showed that my son had no tolerance for the DTP and the MMR was nearly as bad. Hep B was also a big problem. The Polio sabin, varicella, meningiccocal were all well tolerated.  The Hib was fairly well tolerated.

I am convinced these vaccines played a significant role in the development of my son’s autism. I believe that multiple vaccines are not a good thing and that having the MMR and DTP close together, let alone on the same day, are a disaster.

I am also keenly following the work of William J Walsh at The Pfeiffer Treatment Centre on MT function. Both my boys show high levels of copper. Is this a sign of a genetic malfunction of MT proteins, or did the toxic overload of their vaccines trigger this catastrophic malfunction?

Yes

Yes

YES!!!!!!!!!  We adopted a 2 year old boy who had slight delays due to his past environment. Once he was in our home he started developing normally with good speech/communication, improved motor skills etc. He was expected to be fine within a short time! He continued to develop normally, and after he had been living with us for 4 months we took him to his check up and he received the MMR shot. During the shot he screamed MAMA and arched his back and became stiff as a board!!!! We immediately noticed at home that we did not bring home the same child......we NEVER heard him speak another word, his muscle tone is extremely tight/high he had to learn all over again how to walk and his motor skills have never got back to normal, he started grunting, hand flapping, and stimming off lights just to name a few things. None of which he had been doing before the shots!! Put us down for a BIG YES!!!!!!!!!!

Yes

Yes, I absolutely think that her vaccines caused her autism.  She was a completely normally developing child until after her MMR at around 18 months.  After that time period she started changing.  She lost the language she had learned, she no longer understood what we were saying to her, she withdrew from other children and became hypersensitive to sounds.

She is fourteen now and has come along way.  She is still very sensitive to sounds, has a very hard time with language but is learning, and has yet to develop a relationship with another child besides her sister.  Sometimes I try to imagine who she would be if we had not given her the immunizations that you are required to give your children.  I don't do this often because it is honestly to painful for me to think that maybe there was something I could have done to prevent her disability.

We love her dearly, with all her uniqueness and have learned to live our lives around her challenges.

Partially

We believe a genetic predisposition combined w/many assaults on our child's immune system beginning w/antibiotics via the birth canal and Hep B at birth followed by many other vaccines including MMR caused our child's autism. Genetics alone would not have caused our son to reach the severity he was at when he was 2 y.o.  My husband has MANY autistic traits and would probably be classified as autistic if evaluated.  As a child, I had many sensory issues that I have learned to overcome but still carry w/me to a certain extent.  These 2 factors would not have caused my son to be in a vegetative state.  That had to have been caused by the external/environmental factors mentioned above.

Partially

I have just recently come across some information that I think may have finally discovered the initial cause for our son's autism.  We are looking into cranio-sacral therapy which is connected to chiropractics and has greatly benefited many special needs children.  I went to a seminar last week where a woman specializing in cranio-sacral told us how often developmental delays and processing problems stem from a traumatic birth experience.  When my son was born, they used a vacuum extractor to help remove him from the birth canal. According to this lady, this could have been detrimental to him, as it causes the head to expand when it should be contracting, bursts blood vessels, and causes an extremely important bone near the eyes to peak downward instead of upward as it is supposed to. This floored me, as NO ONE has ever told me that a vacuum extractor has any side effects or even made a big deal when I mentioned this relating to his birth.  It made so much sense to me as our son is constantly needing pressure on his head.  We have tried many interventions with him including diet, supplements, ABA therapy, and developmental preschool.  We have seen good progress but nothing has even come close to turning him around. He still has lots of embarrassing stimulatory behaviors and obvious sensory needs. This same lady, who is very knowledgeable about autism and has a daughter who had severe developmental delays at one stage, said because of his birth experience he was very high risk for having a negative vaccine reaction. I cannot put my finger on a specific vaccine that might have done it, but more than likely it was an accumulation of the mercury from them all because we did not know for sure something was wrong with our son until he was about 2 1/2 years old. So, to answer your question directly, I think vaccines did have a role in causing our son  to become autistic with perhaps the vaccuum extractor being the original problem for causing things to go wrong.  I hope this helps and would be very interested in the results of your poll and any future information you come across involving autism and vaccines.  Also, a side note: we have twin sons, age 21 mos. who were 6wks. premature and very high risk being boys and having an older sibling with autism.  They did have about six of their initial injections because I couldn't find anyone who could give me a definite answer regarding vaccines and autism until I read Dr. Stephanie Cave's book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Childhood Vaccinations", a must read for all parents!! I then stopped my babies vaccinations at the age of 6 mos., and they have NOT shown any signs of developmental delay, despite their being six weeks premature.

No

I don't believe vaccines were completely to blame, however I do believe they were a factor.  My son was not one of those who had skills and lost them...he just never had the skills (he couldn't point, clap or wave much less talk by 12 months).   I will always vividly remember, however, the day he received his 12-month round of shots- that was the day he started shaking his head back and forth.  I thought he was having a seizure.  I called the Dr. and they said "kids do that at this stage".   That just never felt right to me-this was different.

Having him tested recently for heavy metal toxicity, we discovered his aluminum level was off the charts, his mercury was high and lead level high/normal.  The Dr. felt vaccinations were the explanation since they have now substituted aluminum for mercury in the shots.   Shortly after, I stumbled on some research discussing the hazards of soy and particularly soy infant formula linking consumption to neurological problems, high aluminum levels (soy leaches this from the soil) and other problems in development.  Countries including Australia and New Zealand are trying to ban soy infant formula.   My son was on soy infant formula when he was three days old until he was 12 months.  Is there a connection?  I believe again, it was more than likely a factor.

As we know, soy is a big business in this country and such information would be very well guarded (when mentioned to my son's Dr., the statement was quickly disregarded).  I would be interested to know how many children diagnosed with autism were given soy formula as an infant.

Don’t Know

My daughter was 18 mos old when she received her MMR vaccine.  That was also the same time they mentioned Autism to me.  So I don't think it came from her MMR vaccine. However, when I was in the hospital after she was delivered they gave me a vaccine for German measles since I was past due.  I breast feed her for about her first week. I don't know if the vaccine I received could've passed through the breast milk and affected her somehow.

Don’t Know

My child was diagnosed at the age of 3, he walked and crawled late also so i can't say if it was the shots or not.   as we found out early on.   I believe it could be from the vaccinations but need more proof.

Don’t Know

My son, now 11, received it at 20 months.  My answer is that I do not know whether it had an impact on him developing autism or not.  With only two children of my own and not enough experience observing "normal" children in the first place, it took a long time for me to realize my son [the younger of thetwo] had problems.  I can't say whether the timing related to his vaccine or not.  He did always have a huge head, which I understand is another trait in question.  He has since been diagnosed with PDD/NOS and we've been working very hard for years to help him overcome the issues as best he can.  In our adventure to work with our son, we have realized that my husband [48] has/had many of the same issues during childhood but they went totally undiagnosed.  And he certainly did not receive any MMR vaccines as a child.

Don’t Know

I'm not sure about our son. He had only one immunization, at age 6 months, when I became aware of various aspects of controversy and did not continue.  Perhaps this is why he has a "light" case.…

No

We have two sons, the oldest has Asperger's, the younger one does not.  While some children may be affected by the vaccines, our son did not begin to show any clear signs of Asperger's until right before kindergarten.  Because he has mild Asperger's, it may be the social bit did not really matter until then, as preschool requirements are not very high, and he has never been disruptive. However, we did not notice any correlation to the vaccine in the way some parents do. Almost any of the other possible causes listed could have pertained to him (maternal flu in the 1st trimester, preeclampsia, 17 hours labor with Pitocin to help it along, with mild fetal distress at the end resulting in an emergent C-section, colicky infant until switched to soy, intolerant of milk until about 20 months, multiple ear infections with effusion, antibiotics, and

yes, a number of engineers in the family :-) My new ob-gyn who has practiced for many years mentioned to me that she had noticed a correlation with neuro stuff with maternal pre-eclampsia, emphasizing it was only her opinion based on her years of practice.

We have noticed a great help for him with the dietary enzymes that break down gluten and casein and eyeQ, an oil from England. Structure in his day and moving him to a better fit of a school has also helped.

I think removing the thimerosol seems an obvious idea, and what affects one child may not affect others, but why have something in that is going to affect children in that way?  The fact is that there has been a great increase in the number of kids on the autistic spectrum and mainstream medicine has not had much of a response to it, with regard to the causes or treatments, leaving parents to seek out answers on their own, desperate to help their children.  This fosters an obvious mistrust between parents who did everything they were told to with their children and ended up with someone on the autistic spectrum. The offer of drugs to calm the violent and occupational therapy to possibly help sensory issues is really not enough, and leaves parents to become unlicensed experimental naturopathic medicine practitioners in order to help their children.

There does need to be some recognition of the magnitude of the problem and an openness to looking at all the possible causes, including if the vaccines need to be made safer.  Vaccines are important or children die of the diseases they prevent, but remember the early problems with the oral polio vaccine?  They should not be treated as something that can never be questioned as to their formulation.

All this to mark me down as a "no" with regard to our own child, but I am open to the possibility it may very well have been the trigger for another child, we just don't know.  I received a letter from my pediatrician's office stating that my younger child (who has does not have Asperger's) had received his 4 year old vaccines when their refrigerator was above temperature and technically they could not vouch for the vaccines efficacy and he should be vaccinated again. I called and discussed the matter with her and agreed to the tetanus only, I just don't think it is a good idea to keep pumping vaccines in and never wonder if there is any ill effect.

No

At birth my son did not cry for two hours.  He rarely slept for the first few weeks, sleeping for 15 to 30 minutes and then waking for 1 hour then sleeping again for 15 to 30 minutes.  He would cry for long periods and could be clamed at night by being held tightly and walked until he would find a light to stare at for ten to fifteen minutes before he would start to cry again.

He walked at 15 months and talked at 24 months.  He had an incredible tolerance for pain as a toddler once cutting himself at age three but not crying although it required 3 stitches.  He was anti-social at daycare and eventually had to be removed at age four due to fighting over toys and disruptive behavior – generally due to obsessive over a new toy or item the teacher had introduced but not allowed the children to touch.

He struggles socially and is somewhat obsessive compulsive but not to a debilitating degree.  He is in fourth grade and is at his “home school”, i.e. not is a special classroom situation.  He receives 1 hour a week of speech/social group therapy at his school.  He also is an A level student who excels in reading, social science and science but struggles with complete reading comprehension, math and writing, especially creative writing.

My grandson's autism was present from birth.  I knew he was not normal when I first held him.  He was 1 week old, totally unable to make eye contact.  His pediatrician kept telling his parents he was perfectly normal.

No

My youngest son showed poor eye contact, inability to sleep, lack of interaction when I picked him up when he was an infant; even in the hospital he was unable to sleep without my holding him.  Except for the vaccine given in the hospital (which I think is far too soon), my son showed these symptoms before the rounds of immunizations.  I do feel there are way too many, too early, and why impose the chickenpox vaccine?  My thought about causes usually leads me to environmental factors and their relationship to GI issues.  What are these fetuses or children being exposed to or ingesting that children 15 years ago were not?  My son has improved a great deal with the diet, and has had GI problems since birth.  Improvement with GI issues directly correlates to improvement with autistic tendencies.

No

My son was odd from the start.

No

I don't believe immunizations caused my daughter's autism.  She is now 6, and seemed to have slight developmental issues from a very early age, although her progress compared to normal peers worsened the older she got.  She never had any obvious setbacks that corresponded with vaccines.
