BETT Gold Award-winning MusicBox tackles encourages children to explore
sounds, chords, percussion and composition by 'painting' on the screen.
Compositions can be speeded up, slowed down, edited, recorded, printed,
saved - even played backwards! Over 200 different 'instruments' are
available in version 2 (grouped into percussion, wind, etc.), plus 'fun'
sounds like pigs, whistles and spoken phrases. You can even create
tunes that include musical burps and the voice of Homer Simpson (doh!)
which greatly amused my son! It also includes tunes you can load
in to play and/or modify - a full-featured, fun music
creation/exploration program.
There are four activities, each of which prepares pupils for traditional
music notation (see right).
 |
You can tailor the program to suit individuals or
groups
 |
Lock pupils into one activity, or allow them to roam
 |
Use Pentatonic, Chromatic and Whole tone scales, as
well as diatonic Majors and Minors
 |
Classroom management is made even easier with new
group and network options |
| | |
MusicBox 2 is already the definitive music program in
thousands of schools in the U.K., and beyond, because the enjoyment and
learning pupils get from it is limited only by imagination.
Choose from one of the four selections:
|
Sound Box - In this 'play' area buttons representing sounds
are arranged vertically by pitch and horizontally by instrument -
just point and click to play a tune. Seven instruments are
available at a time (fewer if you use 'rests'). |
 |
| Chord Box - Explore 2- to 7-note chords, then create sing-
or play-along accompaniments on the clever new Sequencer. Chord
Box will name recognizable chords! |
 |
| Beat Box - Create rhythms by dropping instruments onto a
time line, or with a simple 'drum machine'. Beat Box defaults to
percussion sounds, but any instruments can be used. |
 |
| Tune Box - Drop notes onto a grid (representing the treble
clef stave) to explore the link between tunes and patterns. Load
'dodgy ditties' from disc, and spot the wrong notes. Swap the
instruments in our compositions, or add harmonies to them - better
still, compose your own! |
