Butyrate is a precursor to GABA, the brain's primary calming
neurotransmitter, which is frequently at low levels in children with
autism. It also promotes health within the colon through providing
fuel for the colonic epthelia cells, which helps to maintain health
mucosal cell turnover. It also helps to reduce level of ammonia
in the brain, which is high for some autistic children.
